This is the first new band I've woven entirely at the new house we moved to in October! It's taken quite a while to finish thanks to my current never ending to-do list, but I'm hoping to get back into the swing of thigs soon as my naked loom is currently looking at me reproachfully.
I drew the original design for this draft back in March 2023 and when I came back to it, I added the little wave that the pairs of frogs are giving each other for a touch of whimsy. The green yarn I used is called Lime Sorbet and is by Mothy and the Squid on her sock yarn base. It seemed fitting as she's a bit of a frog enthusiast herself. Lime Sorbet is one of her summer yarns, but she currently has plenty of others currently for sale in pleasingly froggy colours.
This draft comes in two halves; Frog A and Frog B. If you weave both halves, you will have four fully twist-neutral pattern tablet frogs. The draft will still work if you only weave one of the halves, you'll just have a small amount of build-up behind the middle pattern tablets.
My frogs are not coming out. What orientation are you using for your tablets? I set mine up with tablets facing to the right and D A on top but that isn't yielding frogs. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteMy tablets are also labelled on the right, clockwise starting from the top right position, so that A and D sit at the top for the beginning of the turning diagram (as in the second diagram on this page: http://www.tabletweavingintheoryandpractice.co.uk/p/reading-tablet-weaving-drafts.html). Did you check the back of the band? The most common issue is a threading direction error causing the design to appear on the back. Do you have a link I could follow to a picture of your band?

ReplyDeleteHow are you labelling your tablets? That might be the issue, as there's no standard way of doing it. I label mine clockwise with A and D at the top, D closest to the weaver, and the labels to the weaver's right. DeleteI don't think I explained myself well. I followed the S and Z instructions for warping, but when starting the band and turning all tablets forward it doesn't look like the image of the draft. The / and \ look to be reversed

Ah, I see what you mean! I believe I generated the images of the drafts when we had just added an option in TDD to flip the S and Z labels and I had forgotten to turn it back to the default. I've generated new images and replaced the ones above with them so they should make more sense now. You should be able to weave the draft by flipping your tablets and turning them until the green thread is in the right starting position.
